Nov. 19, 2008 SMG-Reliant Park, the University of Houston, Rice University and the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau are very pleased and honored to announce today that the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee has selected Houston and Reliant Stadium as the site to host the Final Four in 2016 and a preliminary round in 2015. The dates for the 2016 Houston Final Four will be April 2 & 4, 2016. "We are thrilled with the NCAA's decision to come back to Houston in 2016" said Shea Guinn, President of SMG-Reliant Park. "March Madness is one of the greatest sporting events in the country. For Reliant Stadium and Houston to host the NCAA Men's Regionals in 2008 and 2010 and the Final Four in 2011 and now again in 2016 is a true honor." "We are thrilled to be one of the hosting institutions that are bringing the Final Four back to Houston. This is truly one of the nation's premier sporting events that captures the attention of sports fans each March. It is a tribute to the great facilities that our city has to offer as well as to the efforts put forth by the committee to create a successful proposal to the NCAA. Rice University is truly honored to be a host for this tremendous event," said Chris Del Conte, Director of Athletics for Rice University. "The University of Houston has a rich tradition in men's basketball, so we are very excited with the Committee's decision and we look forward to working with the NCAA on preparing for the Men's Regionals in 2010 and the Final Four in 2011 and now again in 2016," said Director of Athletics for University of Houston Dave Maggard. "Houston is now established as one of the premier destinations in the country for major sporting events," said Greg Ortale, president and CEO of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau.
