Tailgating at Rice Athletics Events

Rice's on campus venues offer fans the opportunity to join together prior to games for a variety of tailgating options. Reckling Park and Rice Stadium will feature a number of new and exciting fan-friendly features for in 2008 designed to enhance every aspect of the experience of attending a Rice home game. From the new signage and banners, to the various tailgating options including "Tailgate Owley",the revamped concessions selections, an upgraded souvenir print program, as well as new video features on the scoreboard, football games at Rice Stadium this fall will be a new experience for all.

As always, parking at Rice Stadium and Reckling Park is free on game in the designated lots. During the football season, parking lots next to Rice Stadium will be filled first, so to be sure to come early to grab the best spot. Parking lots open four hours prior to game time, and may open earlier for designated games. Parking for baseball games is on a first-come basis.

Special Football Tailgate Features

No college football Saturday would be complete without tailgating, and Rice Stadium offers a number of options for Owl fans, as well as our visitors. There are several options for tailgaters to choose from, depending on the size of their group, or the size of their transportation to Rice Stadium:

  • Tailgate Owley
    The official Rice Athletics tailgate area is located directly north of Rice Stadium on the Rice football practice fields. Tailgate Owley is free to enter. There is live music, inflatatable games for the kids, face painters, and a concession stand with your favorite tailgating food. Bring your blanket or chairs and join the fun. You may also rent your own private area. We supply the tent, tables, chairs, garbage cans, and linens and you bring your friends, co-workers, and guests.     2009 Tailgate Packages
    Small (approx. 50 fans): $599
    Medium (approx. 100 fans): $1199
    Large (approx. 200 fans): $1999
    *Larger options are available.

    Catering:
    Outside catering & beverages are permitted. There will be a concession stand in Tailgate Owley. (No vehicles are allowed inside Tailgate Owley).

    Payment:
    Payment is due 10 days before the scheduled event. Tickets should be ordered separately and can be purchased by calling 713.522.OWLS or by visiting the Ticket Office webpage.

    FAQs:
    Where will my tent be located?
    Utilize the free parking near Gate 3 on the Northeast side of Rice Stadium. Walk to the practice football field entrance and into Tailgate Owley. Signage will be used to display your group name. If you have any questions, ask any of the Rice Athletics Staff on site.

    When does Tailgate Owley open and close?
    Tailgate Owley opens 4 hours prior to gametime. The area begins to shut down 15 minutes prior to kickoff and is closed for good at gametime. Rice Athletics is not responsible for any items lost in Tailgate Owley.

  • Rice Stadium Parking Lots
    Want to bring your own food and tailgate in the parking lot? Parking at Rice Stadium is free in the surrounding lots (some areas are reserved for donors). The parking lots open four hours prior to kickoff . You can tailgate by your vehicle, but you can not set-up in adjoining parking spaces or in fire lanes.

  • Rice Stadium RV Parking
    Parking is located SE of Rice Stadium in West Lot 5. Parking costs $50 per vehicle per game and is limited. This lot opens six hours prior to kickoff.
