Frequently Asked Questions | Athletic Awards and Scholarships This fund currently consists of more than 200 named, individual scholarships and totals more than $41 million. This accomplishment is, in large part, due to our generous donors who want to ensure that the Rice Athletics program is fruitful for the next generation of athletes and fans. Considering that the athletic endowment was only $2.6 million in 1994, it has seen tremendous growth in less than 15 years. Endowed scholarships are important to our program because they last into perpetuity. In other words, this is money we can always count on from year to year, unlike funds for current-use scholarships that may fluctuate. You can create a named, endowed scholarship with a gift of $100,000 or more. Your principal amount is invested, and a percentage of the interest earned each year is given to deserving student-athletes. You may name the scholarship in honor or memory of a loved one or a favorite coach, and you can pay for the scholarship all at once or in installments over a five-year period. Endowed scholarship donors say one of the highlights of funding a scholarship is reading letters from the student-athletes who have benefited from their gift as well as meeting them in person. To endow a new scholarship or to make a gift to one of the many endowed scholarships in memory of or to honor someone special, please call the Rice Athletics Fund at 713-348-6957. |
