Berry Named C-USA Pitcher of the Week
Feb. 12, 2007 DALLAS -- Rice true freshman Ryan Berry was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 12 the league office announced from its headquarters in Dallas on Monday. Berry fired 6.0 shutout innings against nationally-ranked Baylor for a convincing win in the first start of his NCAA career. He limited the Bears to three hits and a walk while striking out a team-high seven batters. The right-hander from Humble, Tex., held 21 hitters faced to a combined .220 batting average and just two advanced into scoring position. The University of Houston's Jimmy Cesario was named the C-USA Hitter of the Week. Cesario went 8-for-12 (.750) with three walks, a double and a home run while scoring three times. The Rice baseball team (2-3) next faces Texas-San Antonio at home on Tues., Feb. 13. First pitch with the Roadrunners (0-0) is slated for 4 pm at Reckling Park.
