Almond Leading the Nation in Scoring
Dec. 11, 2006 Rice's All-America senior guard Morris Almond is the nation's leading scorer with a 30.1 scoring average for games through Sunday, Dec. 10. The Powder Springs, Georgia, native has scored 241 points in eight games. Jackson State's Trey Johnson follows Almond at 29.9 ppg (269 points in nine games). Despite being a marked man on offense and facing various forms of defense, Almond is shooting a stellar 54 percent from the field (80-148), 48 percent from three-point range (21-44), and 82 percent from the free throw line (60-73). He is also second on the team in rebounding (5.3 rpg) and first in steals (12) in playing an average of 31 minutes a contest. In his last three games, he is shooting 70 percent from the field (35-50), 79 percent from beyond the arc (15-19), and 82 percent at the line (22-27) to average an astonishing 36 points a game.
