Rice -- Senior leader among the Owls linebacking corps who enjoyed his healthiest campaign in 2008.
2008: Started a career-high 10 games and finished third on the team with a career-high 66 tackles... Tied for second on the team with a career-best seven tackles for loss and third with 2.5 sacks... Started 10 of the last 11 games, missing the UTEP game with a bruised kidney... came back to start against Army and was credited with eight tackles... Tied his career-high with nine tackles at Tulsa and had three, eight-tackle efforts on the year... took over against Memphis after Brian Raines and Vernon James were injured during the game... Credited with eight tackles and thwarted a late Memphis scoring threat just before halftime with an interception in the end zone to keep Rice within 14-3 at Memphis... Picked off his second pass of the season vs. Tulane... Has four career interceptions, third among Owl defenders. Most experienced of the Owls linebackers (34 games/15 starts).
2007: Finished the year with 26 tackles while seeing action in eight games... Opened the year in the starting lineup and was credited with seven stops against Nicholls... Missed the Texas Tech, Texas and Southern Miss games with an injury, then returned to face Houston and registered his first career sack... Missed the Memphis game with an injury... Returned to action against Marshall and was credited with four tackles, including a pair for loss, and picked up his second sack of the year. 2006: True freshman who developed into a starter by season's end and impressed conference coaches enough to be named to their all-Conference USA freshman squad... Started against ECU and SMU to close out the season regular season and Troy in the R + L Carriers New Orleans Bowl... Credited with 25 tackles over that stretch... Also picked off a pass against ECU and SMU, returning one against ECU 20 yards... Had tackles in each of the first four games (7 total), then was shut out for four...
