A former all conference performer at center, Derek Warehime enters his first year as a Rice graduate assistant on offense after assisting last year as a volunteer.

Warehime started a total of 34 games in his career at Tulsa, and earned All WAC honors as a senior as the Golden Hurricane reached the Humanitarian Bowl in 2004. He played for the Tulsa Talons, who were the Western Division champions of arenafootball2 in 2005 and then began his coaching career that fall as a student assistant at Tulsa. He graduated from Tulsa in the spring of 2006 with a degree in History.

A two-sport star at Choctaw (OK) High School, Warehime earned All-State honors in football in and was the 2000 Oklahoma state champion in the discus. He was selected to play in the 2001 Oil Bowl and was ranked as one of the top 100 offensive line prospects that same year by Rivals.com.

Warehime and wife, Kelly, make their home in Houston.
