Football Set to Open Season with College Colors Day Classic

Rice Stadium Prepares for "Operation Sellout" Gallery
HOUSTON - The Rice football team is closing in on "Operation Sellout" against SMU and a full afternoon of events are on-tap leading into the 7pm kickoff on Friday. Tailgate Owley opens at 3pm and is located on the practice field beyond the north end zone of Rice Stadium with bounce houses, a rock wall and concessions. Live music provided by Ezra Charles is slated for 5pm. Members of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo are holding a barbeque cook-off in the West Lot 3 parking lot located northeast of the stadium to honor those Rice undergraduate students who received scholarships from the organization. The first 2,000 fans who attend the cook-off with a game ticket will receive a free plate of food. After that, all plates are just $6 with all of the proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project. The barbeque is set to begin at 4pm. The first 2,000 fans that present their game ticket will receive a free plate of food. For those fans that don't have a game ticket, it will be $6 per plate with all of the proceeds going towards the wounded warrior project.
Rice parking services has encouraged fans to plan to arrive early. There will be staff at Entrances 8, 13A, and 18 and in the parking lots to help direct you to open parking spaces. If you are approaching the university from the north access will be through Entrance 13A (off Greenbriar Drive) into the Greenbriar Parking Lot or Entrance 18 off of Rice Blvd. From there, parking attendants will direct you into open spaces. If you are approaching from Main Street, please turn west on University Blvd. Once on University Blvd. there will be two defined lanes - the right lane for general parking at Entrance 8 and the left lane for through traffic and donor parking. Look for signs to help. Once on campus parking attendants will direct you to an open parking space. The game also is the third annual College Colors Day Classic. It is organized by the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) seeking to celebrate and promote the traditions and spirit that drive collegiate athletics by encouraging people from across the country to wear apparel of their favorite college throughout the day of August 29.
