Dillard Named Biletnikoff Semifinalist
Nov. 11, 2008
Rice record-setting senior Jarett Dillard is one of 10 players who have been named as semifinalists for the 2008 Biletnikoff Award, which recognizes the top wide receiver in college football. Joining Dillard on the list are Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech, Eric Decker of Minnesota, Austin Collie of BYU, Jeremy Maclin of Missouri, Kerry Meier of Kansas, Dez Bryant of Oklahoma State, Chase Coffman of Missouri, Casey Fitzgerald of North Texas and Quan Cosby of Texas. This is the second time Dillard has been named a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award. He was a finalist for the honor in 2006 after leading Rice to its first bowl berth in 45 years, and he has led the 7-3 Owls to bowl eligibility again as a senior. Dillard is second in the nation with 17 touchdown catches this season and ranks third with 1,093 receiving yards, fourth with 109.3 yards per game and is tied for six in scoring (10.2 points per game). He holds the NCAA career record for touchdown receptions (57) and games with a touchdown catch (36) and has combined with quarterback Chase Clement to set an NCAA record for most career touchdown passes by the same passer and receiver (48). The Conference USA career leader in reception yards, Dillard became just the 13th receiver in NCAA history to record three seasons with 1,000 yards with his 144-yard effort against Army. The winner of the 16th Biletnikoff Award will be announced as part of ESPN's College Football Awards Show on December 11th. The award will be officially presented to the winner at the annual Biletnikoff Award dinner, hosted by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club, on February 13, 2009.
