Rice University athletics department will be celebrating the 21st annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Saturday, February 24th before the Women's Basketball vs. Memphis. Members of the various Rice women's teams will be holding a multi-sport clinic for girls ages 6-11 years old.

The clinic will begin at 2:30PM in Fox Gym, located next to Autry Court, and will feature mini clinics in soccer, swimming, volleyball, tennis, and track & field. Lunch will be provided after the clinic before heading into to Autry Court for the Women's game vs. Memphis. Tip-off is at 5PM

The event prior to the basketball game is limited to the first 250 kids who register in advance. Tickets are $5 and include the sports clinic, lunch and admission to the women's basketball game. In addition, the first 100 who register will receive a t-shirt.

Join us pre-game as we honor our seniors in their final game as Rice Owl and for the final women's game at Autry Court. Rice's three seniors, Lauren Neaves, Krystal Frazier and Samantha Stovall will be honored before the game. At half-time Rice Athletics will recognize and honor former Rice Women's Basketball player Marla Brumfield.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day began in 1987 as a day to remember Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman for her athletic achievements and her work to assure equality for women's sports. Hyman died of Marfan's Syndrome in 1986 while competing in a volleyball tournament in Japan. Since that time, NGWSP has evolved into a day to acknowledge the past and recognize current sports achievements, the positive influence of sports participation, and the continuing struggle for equality and access for women in sports.
