Soccer Team Hosts Two Home Games This Weekend

Live stats vs. HBU

Live stats vs. Texas

The Rice soccer team, off to its best start in history with an undefeated 3-0-1 record, hosts two rival opponents in home games this weekend. The Owls meet crosstown foe Houston Baptist University on Friday (Sept. 8) and the eighth-ranked Texas Longhorns on Sunday at the Rice Soccer Stadium.

The start time for both games is 7 pm. Admission for the public is $6 for adults and $4 for ages 17 and younger. Rice students, faculty and staff get in free with a vaild Rice ID.

The team has free promotional items for both contests. Fans attending Friday's game will get a copy of the Owls' 2006 poster. The first 100 Rice students to attend Sunday's showdown will get a free soccer t-shirt.

Houston Baptist is fielding a varsity soccer team for the first time, but the Huskies are playing like veterans. HBU enters the match with an undefeated 2-0 record and the team has outscored its first two opponents by a combined total of 14-0.

Texas is ranked eighth in the country in the latest American Soccer Coaches Association national poll. The Owls and Longhorns have met twice before in Austin, but Sunday marks the first time the teams will play at Rice.
