Russell Brock

Player Profile

Last College:
USC, 1996

Position:
Assistant Coach

After serving as a volunteer assistant for the past three seasons at Rice, Russell Brock was elevated to full-time assistant coach for the Owl volleyball program on Feb. 9, 2009. Brock will be involved in all aspects of Rice volleyball.

"Russell's experience as a player both at USC and on the outdoor circuit complimented with his competitive and energetic personality is truly going to benefit our program both in the gym and in recruiting," says Volpe. "His tenure as an athletic director is also going to be very beneficial because he understands all the work that needs to be done behind the scenes to run a successful program."

A native of the Texas Gulf Coast, Brock spent the past 11 years at Baytown Christian Academy, where he has served as the athletics director, operations manager and coach of multiple sports, in addition to some teaching duties. He helped guide the volleyball team to four Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools state titles. Brock also served stints as the boys' soccer and boys' basketball coach.

A four-year letterman at Southern California, Brock ended his collegiate career as the Trojans' all-time dig leader with 956, a record he held for 10 years. He also set an NCAA record by posting double-figure digs in 45 matches during his career. He graduated from USC in 1996 with a B.S. in exercise science.

Since his collegiate career ended, Brock remains an active participant on the national volleyball scene, both indoors and outdoors. He plays at the indoor open division nationals every year and holds an outdoor open rating.

Brock was born and raised in Baytown and is a 1991 graduate of Lee High School. Brock and his wife, Kristi, have two daughters, Brooklynn (8) and Kaelynn (6), and a son, Kory (3).
