Trent Herman is in his third season with the Rice volleyball program after spending four years as an assistant volleyball coach and director of recruiting at Iowa State. "Trent is one of the hardest workers out there" said head coach Genny Volpe. "He's so committed to the team and our goals, and he's just a fantastic person to have on staff." Herman is an integral part of the recruiting process, scouting young talent among high school freshmen and sophomores. Additionally, he is charged with the handling equipment, travel, opponent scouting, and video responsibilities. Herman arrived at Iowa State in 2001, and the Cyclones had 19 academic all-Big 12 honorees during Herman's tenure, including five in his final season. Herman's 2004 recruiting class was ranked in the top 40 nationally according to PrepVolleyball.com. Prior to his time at Iowa State, Herman served for two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Southwest State University in Marshall, Minnesota. In 2000, he helped coach the Mustangs to a 19-13 overall record and a 13-5 finish in the Northern Sun Conference. The team finished second in the league in 1999 to compile a two-year record of 39-26 during Herman's tenure. Herman also has experience coaching at the club level. In addition to his graduate assistant duties at Southwest State, Herman served as the club director and the head volleyball coach for the Southwest Minnesota Juniors Volleyball Club team in 1999 and 2000. Prior to his arrival in Minnesota, he was the club director for the West Central Kansas Juniors Volleyball Club from 1997-1999. Herman played on the men's volleyball squad at Fort Hays State, where he was a four-year starter at outside hitter from 1994-1997. He also participated as the starting outside hitter for the Western Kansas Fighting Togers USAV open team from 1995-1998. Herman earned hs bachelor's degree in history from Fort Hays State in 1999. |
