HOUSTON -- The annual "Stepping Out For The Owls" Walkathon benefiting Rice Women's Athletics will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 9:30 am at Rice Stadium. Fans, friends and family of Rice are invited to don their walking shoes and Halloween costumes and join the Owls for a morning of exercise and Halloween fun.

Participants are encouraged to ask others to sponsor them or pledge on a per lap basis. Each walker will have 60 minutes to complete as many laps of the stadium concourse as possible with a maximum of 12 laps. Joining the walkers will be current Rice student-athletes and coaches from all of the women's programs. Additionally, the current Owls will be leading special activities for attending children.

All walkers will receive a t-shirt and two tickets to see the Rice women's basketball team host Arkansas-Little Rock on Nov. 20 at 7 pm along with an invitation to attend the volleyball team's match against East Carolina on Oct. 28 (admission is free). Additionally prizes will be awarded to the top money-raising participant, runners-up and many other categories including best costume.

This event is spearheaded by the Women's Athletic Advisory Board (WAAB), whose purpose is to advise, support and enhance women's athletics and athletic programs at Rice University. There are two main fundraising events the WAAB holds every year, one is the Walkathon and the other is the Rice Golf Classic. Last year, these two events produced over $52,000 for Rice women's athletic programs.
